Decorate A Christmas Tree!

For this activity we had to write what we have been thankful for, for this year. In this short piece of writing we had to make sure it was level 3, had good vocabulary, and we actually had to think about what we were writing.  Once we had finished writing in the box we got to decorate the christmas tree, which was really fun!

Te Whare Tapa Wha

We were learning about our four walls, and how to keep them up. The four different walls are physical, spiritual, mental and emotional, and family and social. In those four boxes we had to add in what that subject means to us.

We were using our learning asset Whaiwhakaaroa being a thinker by using images to reflect on what each pou meant to us, and how it makes us strong.  Also how it makes me the best me I   can be.

I found it hard to find certain images that I needed for my walls, because when I searched something up it wouldn't come up with the exact picture that I needed. But then I thought that I should use the key words instead of one big sentence.

Using onomatopoeia

We were learning to use onomatopoeia, and we had to write a poem about fireworks using onomatopoeia, so then we can have more description in our writing. Onomatopoeia is when you are describing the sound of something, for example POP, BANG.

I found it easy to describe the sounds of fireworks because I have experienced with fireworks before , and it was easy for me to describe the sounds.

I found it hard to think of my ideas quick, because I was focusing more on trying to add onomatopoeia then getting my poem finished.

Next time I could use different onomatopoeia to make it more exciting, and so the sound paints a picture in the reader's head. Next time I could also think of my ideas more quicker, so that I can show Kaiwhakarite.

I was a thinker, because I used onomatopoeia in my writing, and I used it to describe the sounds of the fire works to add more description in my writing. Also to make my piece of writing level three.

Ancient Creature!

I am focusing on being a communicator and being able to share my ideas through writing. I am doing this by  using  different varieties of sentence starters, but next time I will level up my sentence starters. I also used conjunctions to link my ideas together. In my writing I used similes to make my piece of writing level four, and to paint a picture in my readers head. I also used alliteration and great adjectives in my writing to make my piece of writing level four, although next time I think I could focus more, and change up my sentence starters to make them level four.

Famous New Zealander

I showed kairangahau by using the key words to answer the questions that I needed to find the answer to. Next term I think I can be a better researcher by using the right words  like five w's.

I really enjoyed using comix, because I liked all of the different varieties of characters and speech bubbles. I also really liked using comix, because it's a really fun website to use and it's really easy to use.

I showed Kaiwhakarite by completing the task on time, and doing the best that I could. Next term I think I could show Kaiwhakarite by adding more detail to my blog sentence stems.

Then and Now

I was being a communicator by, asking Mrs Leggett what her first job was and how old she was when she started her job, because I was curious what her first job was, and I wanted to know what the jobs were like in the early 1900's.

I think I showed kairangahau by, organising my information clearly, because I made my font big enough so people could read what I wrote, and I said my writing clearly when I was using audio.

I found it challenging to be a researcher and collect the images that I needed, because whenever I searched something up I couldn't find what I needed.

I don't think I was being a self manager because, I didn't managed my time effectively, because I think I toke to long on my blog sentence stems, and recording my audio.

Early arrivals in New Zealand

We were learning to find the history around all of the early arrivals in New Zealand, and I chose an explorer, Captain Cook. To find the history behind this subject we had to research, firstly all of the facts that we discovered we had to write them into our book. We then had to turn all of the facts we researched into a story, we also had to make a title page to describe our writing.

I found it easy to create my title page because it was very easy to find all of the images on google that I needed. I also found it easy to find some of the facts that I needed, it was also easy to write the start of my writing but getting to the end it got harder.

I found it hard to turn all of the facts that I had into a story because at the start I didn't really understand but then I finally understood. I also found it hard to write my title because all of the titles I used didn't make sense but then my teacher Mrs Hall told me.

I really enjoyed learning about Captain Cook because before I started this activity I knew nothing about him but at the end of this activity I learnt lots. I also really enjoyed doing my title page because I loved looking at different fonts, and looking at all of the pictures.

Next time I think I could of added more detail of what New Zealand was first like when Captain Cook discovered it by saying if there were lots of trees or any little homes.
